World SMS Day Drawing!

To celebrate World Smith-Magenis Day (Nov 17), I am hoping to get at least 5 tablets to our SMSers.   I also wanted to make the day a little bit more fun for everyone of you that donate.  I know you feel great in knowing you contributed to such a great cause, but I don't know if you realize that you have put complete joy in their life for a brief time.  They love getting the attention of winning and feeling loved, knowing people cared for them enough to give them a tablet.  And they love to give.  So I thought it would be great to have the SMSers give back to one lucky donator.

Starting today (Oct 8) until Nov 15, 2015, anyone who donates $15 or more, will be entered into a drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card.  Nov 17 an SMSer will draw a name from my list of donators and I will post it on our FB page.  You could be that lucky winner!
And don't worry if you miss it.  Every donation, I receive a notice with the donator's name and email address.  I will email you if your name is drawn.

So won't you help make this November 17 the best World SMS Day?

Welcome to Kindling Dreams for SMS!  I would like to thank you for your interest in helping our cause in helping adults and children with Smith-Magenis Syndrome getting a much needed tablet.

This is very dear to my heart because my son, Colin, has SMS and I saw the benefit of  him having a Kindle Fire.  Once we bought him a tablet, his meltdowns improved.  Waiting in a doctor's office was not as bad as before because he was able to forget where he was and turn his attention to his Kindle.  Car rides were unbearable before after about an hour.  Now Colin can ride for 5 hours at a time.  And the Apps are so great for kids with SMS because there are so many out there that help teach while they play.  SMS kids need that kind of help to reinforce what their teachers are teaching them.

But that is just a few things that are important to the SMS child.  Our kids love to take selfies and use Skype.  You haven't seen a selfie until you have seen an SMS selfie!  Our kids are very social and need the interaction Skype allows.  Our kids can't get enough of Skyping other SMS families or their grandma!

Tablets aren't just for playing.  They are a good tool to have when our kids are in sensory overload.  They need to just be by themselves and cool down.  Tablets allow them to do that.  They can watch a video/movie or just listen to music in a quiet corner and just relax.  And some use their tablets in the middle of the night because they can't sleep.  People with Smith-Magenis Syndrome have their melatonin released during noontime instead of nighttime. I sometimes refer to Colin as being nocturnal because of this.  They can't sleep during the night so tablets help keep them quietly occupied.  Unless when they play Angry Birds.  That game can really make your heart pound when you are half awake.

Now that you know the benefits our SMS kids get from having a tablet, you may be asking how this works.  By pushing the donate button on the right hand side of this page, you will decide how much you would like to donate.  Any size amount is appreciated.  Once I get enough funds to buy a Kid's Edition Kindle Fire, we have a drawing.  Usually it is another SMSer who already has a tablet.  They love to be apart of it :).  I have a list of  SMSers whose parents have entered them into the drawing.  These kids/adults do not have a tablet of any kind.  I give the first names to the parent of the SMSer will do the drawing.  And if you look at the Winners section, you will see they film the person drawing and that is how the winner is announced.  I immediately notify the winner and within hours, their kindle is being ordered.  Some parents have a video or a picture of their SMSer receiving their Kindle.  It is such a joy to see!

I also would like to add 100% of the money goes to buying the kindles.  Again, thank you for helping with our dream to get as many tablets into the hands of SMSers as possible!
